Meet Nicole

Hi there! I’m Nicole McArdle (she/her/hers), Registered Dietitian and the founder of Fuel for Function. I provide whole-person, evidence-based nutrition counselling for eating disorders, sports performance, wholistic health and more to clients from all walks of life.

I graduated with a B.S. in Clinical Nutrition from the University of California, Davis in 2019, then completed my dietetic internship with a clinical focus in eating disorder care through KADDI in 2022. I have worked as a Dietitian in multiple practice settings including eating disorder PHP/IOP, outpatient home health, and outpatient telehealth. With additional experience as a Certified Personal Trainer, I’m also able to support my clients with the nuanced relationship between nutrition and movement. I am currently completing a master’s degree with a focus in sports nutrition at Arizona State University.

My life experiences have led to me opening Fuel for Function with the philosophy of "enjoy your food - fuel for (fun)ction". I believe that all food is fuel for a purpose in our lives, whether that’s for fun or function. Whether you’re looking to heal your relationship with food, focus on athletic performance, or enhance your wellness, Fuel for Function can help you achieve your goals.

Let’s Get Personal

I’ve found that there is no substitute for authenticity in my sessions with clients. While nutrition care is the focus of my work, the counseling side of things is vulnerable and relational. For this reason, I like to share a bit about myself as a provider and person.

I greatly value inclusivity and social justice, practicing with those concepts in mind. As a white cis woman, I hold space for the fact that I always have room to learn from my clients from other identities and walks of life. My clients often tell me that I’m intense, which in my work means that I not only approach sessions with empathy, compassion and curiosity, but I also pair this with accountability, honesty and reframing.

In the realm of health, I’m incredibly passionate about both nutrition and movement. I love food, including trying new recipes at home and new places to dine - though my relationship with eating wasn’t always all sunshine and roses, and healing to enjoy food again took time. I’m a recreational athlete, regularly practicing Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and strength training. Finally, I greatly enjoy hiking and spending time in nature with my husband and dogs. I look forward to getting to know you in our work together!
